High On Life Club Mission

The High on Life Club offers any and all individuals seeking recovery from addiction and also the
established recovering community a place to go where they can find other men and or women who
understand the process of recovery. We come together to find support and to learn about the many other
resources available to the recovering individuals in our community. We aid in the process of showing
people that they can lead productive lives without the use of drugs and or alcohol in a safe environment.

History of the High On Life Club

The High On Life Club was established April 13, 1984 in Joplin, Missouri. The idea of the High On Life Club
was not a new concept even in the early 1980’s. Another type of organization that serves the same
purpose is known as Alano Clubs and they are spread out all over the United States and Canada. A group
of individuals from various 12 step recovery programs joined together to form the High On Life Club. The
original vision of the group was to someday own a building that would meet the needs of not only then but
also the needs of the future. They wanted to offer any and all individuals seeking recovery from addiction
and also the established recovering community a place to go where they could find other men and or
women who understood the process of recovery. They played a huge role in the process of showing people
that they could lead productive lives without the use of drugs and or alcohol in a safe environment.
Another one of the many reasons for the existence of the High On Life Club was to offer a consistent,
safe, clean and friendly environment to the individuals and their families. We are very proud to say this
has all been very successful for almost 23 years except for the ability to purchase a building. The good
news is we are on our way of fulfilling the original vision.

Our Relationship with 12 step Programs

12 step programs and other organizations do not finance or lend their name to any outside organization.
The High On Life Club is an outside organization, separate and distinct from any of the 12 step programs,
treatment facilities (inpatient or outpatient) and or recovery houses that are in our community or
geographical area. We do however have an ongoing relationship of cooperation with all the mentioned
organizations.

An autonomous group conducts each meeting held at the High on Life Club, and each group pays rent to
the High on Life Club monthly to help pay some of the monthly expenses. Membership in the High on Life
Club is independent of membership in any of the various organizations who use the High on Life Club
facilities for their meetings.
